EMDR taps into the natural healing ability of your brain and body. This treatment method will begin with a thorough assessment and development of a treatment plan, whereas we work together to identify any distressing memories, areas of physical or emotional overwhelm, and future hopes and desires. EMDR is a unique trauma therapy in that you will not need to verbally explain any details of any past traumatic experiences if you do not want to. It aims to help you resolve distressing sensations (such as anxiety, panic, etc.) through a process of somatic desensitization, and then reprocess negative beliefs you may have developed over time and replace them with healthy, positive Self-beliefs.

This process essentially works to reprogram your brain’s memory network so that when your mind or body become reminded of the memory of a traumatic event, your nervous system no longer reacts with intense or completely overwhelming trauma-responses.
